While doing some shopping after work last night, I wondered into a T-Mobile store to see the latest Google phone. I heard Leo and Gina talking about the G1, and its flaws. I knew there was a new handset coming out, but I didn't know anything about it. I'm interested in the Android OS. It's somewhat difficult to decode the carrier marketing brands, handset manufacturer models, and OS version. However, after interrogating the sales representative I believe the phone that I want to evaluate will be released very soon.
I explained that I was an iPhone user currently, having purchased a first generation model shortly after the launch. It's likely that I'll upgrade to the next Apple iPhone when it's announced unless I see something amazing from Google. The sales representative asked me what I like about my iPhone. Here are the highlights:- iTunes keeps all my podcasts updated using rules that make the best use of memory capacity
- .Mac updates my contacts and calendars across several computers
- Mobile Safari is the best phone browser I've used so far
- Apps like 1Password, OmniFocus, and Twittelator are indispensable
- Free WiFi at any AT&T hotspot, such as McDonald's, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble
- System-wide PKI management
Hilariously, the sales representative said "Oh, that's interesting. Most people tell me that the thing they like about the iPhone is that when you click on an icon it goes like {hand gesture}." I didn't understand what she was talking about until she repeated the mime of icon animation. Totally. That is the best feature of the iPhone.
