I recently used the Roomates.com website to find a place to rent in Pasadena. It works well enough, and there's a charge for the service, which tends to weed out the riffraff. During the search process, I sent/received a few messages users on the site. Once I agreed to rent with someone, I deactivated my Roommates.com account so I wouldn't be appearing in search results for people looking for a renter. The deactivation worked properly and I picked the "I found a place" reason on their form.
A week later, I wanted to retrieve a bit of information that I had exchanged using the Roommates.com messaging system. I discovered that the only way to login and retrieve messages was to reactivate the account. Unfortunately, reactivating the account means filling out all the personal information again. I gave up partway through the process. This morning I received an e-mail from them indicating that my partially completed account would be deleted soon if I didn't complete it. Good grief. So, I followed their link in the e-mail to the deactivation form. In the comments, I wrote this: ----snip----snip----snip----snip----It would be really nice if I could still access the messages sent to me when my account was active. I had to reactivate just so I could see what someone wrote to me.
----snip----snip----snip----snip---- Shortly thereafter, I received a response from their trouble ticket system: ----snip----snip----snip----snip----
If you wish to reactivate your account, log in and select the first option.Your account will be permanently deleted after 30 days of deactivating your account. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. LeVar
Roommates.com Support
----snip----snip----snip----snip---- Why bother having a support group that responds to messages without reading and comprehending them? It seems to make the problem worse. I wasn't even expecting a response because they did not indicate that they would. But now I just think that their organization is incompetent. Glowing review, complete. -joseph
