PayPal Plug-In discontinued. It was only a matter of time.

Upon logging in to PayPal this afternoon, I received an interstitial page indicating that the PayPal Plugin product (which is the tool that allows users to generate single-use and vendor-specific credit cards, which they call Secure Cards) will be discontinued. This service was awesome, and I've publicly praised the company several times for making something innovative and useful. PayPal now encourages people to pay with PayPal Plus MasterCard (a product of GE Money Bank) instead. I understand; the business strategy of credit card issuers is to entice customers to maintain a balance and make crazy amounts of interest -- it's not about customer security and convenience.
