I ordered the Adafruit Industries Ice Tube Clock Kit a couple weeks ago. I was afraid that if I didn't act soon, they would be gone. As it is, they are backordered, but mine was shipped in less time than the product page warns. Unfortunately, I was in Pasadena while the kit waited for me in Newbury Park. I got home this evening and tore into it. The following is a picture of all the PCB components. It took about an hour to complete the placement and soldering, even though I was going slowly and carefully.
The completed board is pretty tight. No wasted space at all.
The longest part of the project, and what took the most amount of patience was threading all the tube leads through the PCB. Out of the box, they were all tangled up. I was super careful when soldering the wires not to short any of them. Take a look at the instructions page to see the procedure: Kit Assembly I am totally stoked that it works perfectly. There were SO many things that could have gone wrong. This kit is beautifully engineered. I can only imagine how many prototype designs they built to expose all the problems that are cleverly solved.
